By Lowell L. Ashbaugh
This light is excellent. I bike home in the winter about a mile along a street with no streetlamps. I need a headlight that lets me see the road, not just one that lets drivers see me. This one lets me see any obstacles in the road - fallen branches, etc. - in plenty of time to avoid them. It lasts a long time, too, and recharges quickly. The first time I started to run low on batteries I switched to the lower power light and had plenty of juice to get home. I highly recommend this light.

I got this as a gift, and it has really improved my visibility. I'm now using the helmet-mount adapter instead of the handlebar mount, which seems to extend the range a little (since perched atop the helmet). The 3-setting (plus flash) option is nice, and the lowest solid-burn setting is still quite bright (far more output than a single front LED blinky). I now have the option of seeing holes and debris instead of riding-by-memory in the dark.Good Stuff*USB rechargeable, and the battery lasts a decent amount of time (I'm getting probably 5-6 night rides on low setting--about 1.5-2 hours in the dark per ride)*excellent light output--I can light the bike lane side-to-side in low setting, and almost all of a car's lane in high (not as bright as car headlights, but pretty good for a bike light). I also notice I tend to get more recognition/space from oncoming cars than with just a blinky*cordless--no need to sacrifice a bottle cage for a battery pack or tie-on a cumbersome external power supplyNotes and Concerns*the handlebar mount didn't seem as solid as I'd like--the hinge pin thing seems to work loose during the ride (can push it back in, but it's annoying to have to check the hinge repeatedly)*does add some weight, but I doubt it would be material unless you're a serious gram-counter. Commuters and non-racing folks shouldn't have a major problem*if using the helmet mount, probably want to keep a basic front blinky on the handlebars too--if you're not facing-front and the light's on your helmet, the light won't be facing frontI've had the light about 2 months now. Overall, I'd recommend it, though I also recommend getting the helmet mount.

By D. Blankenship
I must admit to you that I am extremely fussy about bike lights and have gone though quite a few of them over the past few years. Some were good, some were bad and some were ugly. I am normally a pretty patient and mellow fellow that lets little bother him, but for some reason things that go on my bike - I am, I admit, overly picky. I share this with you so you will know where I am coming from.I will tell you right now that I have found very little to complain about in reference to this NiteRider MiNewt 150. To begin with, the price is most certainly right and it is even better here on Amazon than the one I purchased at a local bike shop. You are actually getting a lot of light for your money with this one. That was first but there are other features and facts I like. For the dollar this is one of the brightest lights I have ever use. Evan on "low" I have enough light to actually see where I am going. I ride a rather long bike trail composed of packed gravel. While the maintainers of this trail do a wonderful job, you never know that is going to be around the next bend from one storm to the next. It is not uncommon to have a perfectly smooth ride one day; wait a day, and find you might as well be doing off road mountain biking. I also ride on paved streets, which most of the time have street lights, but I also ride on the road from town to my house and the few street lights we do have are all private (like mine) and you never know from one evening to the next whether or not they have been shot out by the mindless little trogs we have living here. Anyway, the low beam is usually good enough but the high beam throws out enough light to adequately light a Grateful Dead concert. (That is an exaggeration - but you get the point). The flash mode is quite handy and I use it a lot when in town. It makes your bike much more visible in twilight - you can see where you are going, but they cannot always see you clearly. This unit helps a lot.I like the fact that this unit can be installed with no tools. I tend to screw-up anything I touch with a tool so this is ideal for me. I also love the fact that this is a rechargeable light and there are no batteries to fool with and eventually add to the landfill which is already toxic enough as it is. There are no wires running here and there - a pet peeve of mine. I would recommend the helmet mount - more about that later. On my bike I use the handle bar mount although many would prefer the helmet mount I am sure.A charge, I have found, if it is kept primarily on low beam (which is enough under normal circumstances), will last you about five hours. The fact that the light lasts right to the end of the charge and does not grow dimmer with use is a real plus for me. If I am out on the road five hours after dark my wife would send out the troops anyway. There are a couple of things that do annoy me though. First, the light, after a heavy and rough ride, does seem to become loose on the bars and there "was" some slippage. I wrapped a thing strip of rough electrical tape around the bar where the light is mounted an that took care of that problem. There is also the fact that this light is a bit heaver than some, weighing in at about 13 oz. I personally find this to be no problem but I do have friend that are fanatics about weight. They like my light but are skeptic about the added weight. Now I note that the product description says nothing about this thing being water proof. I most certainly will not stand behind this aspect of this light but I will tell you that I have been through several rather sever rain storm with no ill effect and as a matter of fact, at one time my unit was completely submerged in water and it kept right on working. (I wade creeks as a hobby at night and, as geeky as it sounds, actually wear my bike helmet at night. I am old and getting feeble and the last thing I need is a head injury on our Missouri rocks while I am in the middle on nowhere. Geeky though it may be, the fogs, snakes, turtles and other critters do not even snicker when they see me). Anyway, I have had no problem with water damage so far.All in all I am quite satisfied with this product.Don BlankenshipThe Ozarks
