5Amazing necklace
By Rachel
I got this necklace for my girlfriend for our 1 year anniversary of dating. I had decided months ago that I wanted to get her an infinity symbol necklace, and I thought that was a pretty common thing, but you'd be surprised at how few jewelers (at least what I could find online) have them, and those that do are usually very complicated and I think distasteful. Then I found this. I was a little hesitant about getting jewelry from a seller I had never heard of before, and buying it off of amazon...it seemed tacky to me. It's a good thing I didn't let that stop me--dont let it stop you!--because this necklace is absolutely perfect. I'm a college student so I don't have that much money but the price of this wasn't bad at all and definitely worth it. She loves it. It's small and simple but stunning.

Product Description

Takamine’s Natural series was conceived to give the biggest and widest acoustic sound possible. The Natural ETN70C OM is handcrafted in our pro series facility that has been building precision quality instruments over five decades. Solid cedar tops, solid sepele backs, a thin satin finish and no pick guard – anything that could possibly impede the vibration of the soundboard was purposely left out. The tone is sweet and lively – and is voiced for balance across the entire playable range. In keeping with the “natural” theme, various woods are used to trim and decorate each model. The rosette is an intricate design using ovangkol and rosewood. The purfling is basswood and fretboard inlays are maple. A pinless bridge makes string changing a breeze. Includes Takamine’s palathetic pickup®, known in the industry as one of the most accurate and natural sounding acoustic/electric pickups. The CT4B preamp has long been the popular choice among Takamine pro artists, providing warm natural acoustic tone at high sound pressure levels.

4Cold, somewhat clinical sound - but it may grow on you
By Chambolle
I am admittedly a johnny come lately to the iPhone/iPod music movement, one of those oldies who refused to use my iPhone as a music device until just a short while ago, skeptical that real sound could come out of this little thing. Having recently tried listening with the cheapo earphones that came with my iPhone - and being somewhat surprised by the reasonable fidelity I could get with them -- I decided to step up to the very well-reviewed and regarded Etymotics, despite a number of naysayers who complain about the lack of a low end. I cannot say I am unreservedly thrilled with these phones, but having given them some time to warm up - and for me to warm up to them - I have to say they do provide impressive clarity and accuracy, albeit in a cool, glossy sort of way.I listen mostly to jazz and classical music, with a smattering of rock/pop, and I loathe the boomy muddy bass that comes out of a lot of speakers, subwoofers and even headphones these days. So I'm definitely not looking for exaggerated, thumping bass. However, I definitely am looking for sound with warmth, presence and body. I found the Etymotics phones to be accurate -- perhaps to a fault. The problem is they come up somewhat short in the warmth and body department; although as noted below, you should give them some time to break in before passing judgment on them, because they will richen up some with use, and you may warm up to their sound as well. I also urge you to get a pair of quality foam tips for these phones - for comfort and sound quality, in my book they can't be beat.Yes, the HF3 seems to deliver sound that is relatively uncolored and 'flat.' That might be an unmitigated virtue if the source material itself were not the cold, clinical digital output of a computer or an iPod/iPhone - the very devices the HF3 is meant to match. On some of this digitized source material, I think you will find yourself hankering for a bit more "tube amp" style warmth than these phones are able to provide. On the plus side, the sound has clarity, precision and 'cut.' Listening to popular music that is mixed and layered to a fare thee well, you will be amazed how well these phones reveal all of the detail. For example, on the Cranberries "Dreams," I could hear instrumental lines I had no idea were there. Ditto Elvis Costello's "Coal Train Robbery." Even here, however, the lack of a bottom end is evident. But -- and this is an important "but" for me -- listening to ensemble pieces, like Eddie Gomez, Mick Goodrick, Jack DeJohnnette and John Surman on the classic "In Passing," you may at times be left with the sense these folks are playing out on an ice floe in subzero Arctic air. The sound is clear, crisp, detailed, bright for sure -- but it can seem cold and hard as a block of ice, brittle as a sheet of glass. The low end is clean and there is no lack of detail. But there is little warmth, resonance or volume (and by that I do not mean "loudness"). The lush tone and drive that makes Eddie Gomez's prodigious bass playing such a delight is attentuated. He could be playing a synthesizer -- it simply does not sound like a large instrument made of wood with plucked strings that can fill a room with sound. Using Rhapsody and its equalizer, no amount of 'bass boost' could warm the music up enough to please me. Before ample break-in time, on Gary Burton's "Open Your Eyes You Can Fly," Abraham Laboriel's electric bass -- one of the signature sounds on the New Quartet album -- sounds like a rubber band on a cigar box, not the punchy fuzz bass I know it to be. The highs are clean and almost supernaturally bright and clear -- DeJohnette's cymbals never sounded more present and pristine. But the low end and the midrange are too attenuated to give a satisfying listening experience. This same music, from the same Rhapsody source, with the equalizer set flat, and played over the M-Audio BX-5a nearfield monitors sitting on my desk, certainly lack the detail and surgical precision of the Etymotics. However, ultimately the sound from the monitors also has warmth, depth, body and realism the Etymotics do not match. This, by the way, is my listening impression using the foam tips that come with the Etymotics, after a few days of using these phones and some trial and error to try to get the best fit, comfort and sound. Those cool looking 'triple flange' silcone things? Forget 'em. I tried the phones with those to start, as they are mounted on the HF3s in the box. They look cool -- and absolutely do not work, at least not for me. With the silicone tips, the HF3s sound like a five dollar pocket transistor radio, circa 1959; tinny, metallic and cheap -- far worse than the relatively listenable earphones that come with Apple devices. It appears you can jam the darned silicone things all the way through your eardrums if you wish -- but you still won't get a good "seal" and decent sound. When I purchased the HF3s, I was spring loaded to get fitted for the $100 custom fit silicone buds you can buy through Etymotics. Now, having experienced the vast improvement in quality with the slightly clunky Etymotics stock foam buds, which naturally expand to fill your ear canal, I have fitted a pair of the "Comply TX 100" foam replacement buds with built-in filters (ok, let's get graphic, the "filters" keep ear wax out of the business end of the phones). At least for me, foam tips that will expand to fit each time you put them in your ears seem to provide the very best sound you can get with these Etymotics phones. I am skeptical that any silicone tips, custom fit or not, can provide the same comfort and fit required to optimize the listening experience. The foam tips may look dorky and they may wear out and require reasonably frequent replacement. It still seems well worth using them. They are comfortable, stay put and provide really good noise cancellation and sound quality.I've had the HF3s a short while and cannot comment on their longevity. However, they seem well made and robust and I expect that with careful handling they will be with me for a long time. The molded and angled plug looks robust -- especially well designed and executed.I have not yet tried the microphone feature of the HF3s, and in retrospect think it is unlikely I will, as I have a couple of jawbone icon earbuds that do an excellent job. I really am not the kind of person who wants to stop listening to music (or working, or eating, or paying attention to my driving, or to my dinner companion) to pick up every darned call that comes in on my mobile. If it's important, they'll leave me a VM and I can call back when it is appropriate. So if you feel the same way, save yourself $30 to $50 and buy the HF5, which appears to be the same model without the remote volume control, microphone and automatic muting to take phone calls. My bottom line conclusion: for traveling and casual music listening, these are compact, light but well constructed and provide crisp and uncolored sound. But they may fail to satisfy if you are expecting sound that is honeyed, warm, deep and rich, with the kind of coloration that one expects from even the best speakers and over the ear phones. What you will get is somewhat cold, aloof and clinical precision that at times seems to lack richness and depth and, dare I say it, that can on some material strike you as somewhat lacking in low and low mid-range output. If these are among the best "in the ear" phones one can buy, as others are saying, then I'm not about to abandon real speakers and real on the ear headphones when I want to really listen closely to recorded music. However, having spent a few more days letting these phones break in and getting used to the very particular 'voice' these phones project, I feel they DO warm up quite a bit after 15 to 20 hours of playing time. And perhaps it is just a matter of getting attuned to the Etymotics sonic universe, but I'm willing to admit that I'm getting more warmed up to listening with these phones. On recordings that are relatively flat, you may still find them wanting, and you will hunger for a delivery device that will richen up the mix. However, I've just given these a listen -- Charles Lloyd's new "Mirror" album. You're still not going to be blown away by the volume at the low end, but there is definitely some honey in the sound, to go along with the crystal clarity from bottom to top of the response curve. And, returning after break-in to listen to Burton's "New Quartet," ol' Abe Laboriel's thwacking fuzz bass seems to have grown some cojones it did not have on my first go through with these phones.Dare I say it, I'm growing to like them a lot more. Although I cannot say they are a five star, unmitigated pleasure, there's a lot of very clean sound coming out of these teeny buds.

1CAUTION problems with iPhone 4s
By AGST
I have used Etymotic products for years and I have always rated them 5 stars. I have 2 HF-3 Both in warranty. I recently purchased an iPhone 4s and the microphone amplifies the ambient sound to great distraction. I called Etymotic customer service and they stated that they are aware of the problem and they don't have a solution. Basically told me I had to live with the problem or by someone else's product

5Perfect accuracy, clear, defined, true sound.
By RocknPop
These earphones are exactly what they claim to be, accurate and noise isolating. As reference, I am also a recording musician. I play guitar, bass, piano, and sing. I have recorded and mixed a professional studio album with my band. I also have a home studio and have owned several studio monitors. For those who don't know what studio monitors are, these are "speakers" that give you the clearest, cleanest, most accurate response of your recording. And this exactly what I was looking for when looking for headphones, and I found on these earphones. At first I was scared that there was no bass response, like many have said, but then I checked their website on the proper way to fit the earphone, and voila! - I had perfect bass response and all frequencies at a flat level, with the needed spacing among each of the frequencies. As others have said, I can hear instruments that I had not yet heard in songs as well as cleaner definition on instruments that I knew existed. As a recording musician, I strongly recommend these headphones to anyone who is looking for a clear reference earphone.

5Great piece
By Kevin B. Phillips
The Takamine EG350SC is an oustanding guitar. Low action leads to great playability.Very beautiful guitar as well. Bright tones and good projection. The on-board amp doesn't dissappoint either. The guitar rarely goes out of tune. Takamine did a great job on this instrument. Five Stars across the board. I highly recommend it.

5Need bicycle components?
By Jeff Laskowski
Amazon provides a vast selection of all bicycle components. This is a great light. It is very bright and has hours of use before it needs recharging. It utilizes traditional charging (wall charger) and USB charging so you can charge it in your car or from your computer's power USB port. Design allows for multiple mounting configurations and can easily be moved from bicycle to bicycle (this is a big advantage as I have 3 bikes). I bought it through Amazon and am very happy with the prices and vendors.

5Minnesota Grad
By Sharon S.
I did my undergraduate work at UofM and my graduate work at University of Washington. I've had a UofW watch for some time. My friends from Minnesota were giving me a bad time about not having one from UofM, so I finally ordered one. I love the watch; it is exactly as pictured and just what I wanted. I did have a bit of a problem with the order. When the package arrived, the paperwork said it was a ladie's watch from UofM, but the watch in the box was a men's watch from Northwestern University. The company was very good about replacing it, and other than about a week delay in getting it, all is well.

5Beautiful necklace!
By Teresa D.
Necklace was exactly as described, but photo (although very clear and showed detail) didn't do it justice. This is a stunning necklace, perfect size (pendant not too big or too small) and just enough sparkle that it can be dressed up or down, can wear with jeans or dresses.

4Wow! Highly Impressive In Ear Monitors.
By Method2Madness "Alex"
I am somewhat of a headphone/earphone junkie. I'm always getting new 'phones, in search of "perfection" and although I can't say I have found personal perfection with the HF3s, they are close. Before I start on the meat and potatoes of this review, I want to make a statement. A disclaimer, if you will. Sound quality is HIGHLY subjective and what sounds great to one listener, may sound like trash to another. It never ceases to amaze me how different it can be. Now, moving on.PROS-Sound Quality and Accuracy: These little guys are incredibly detailed and precise, if a bit bright. I am noticing things in my music that I never noticed with my previous earphones (SuperFi 4s, MetroFi 220s, Klipsch S2s, Klipsch S4s, V-Moda Bass Freqs, Multiple Sony EX series, V-Moda Phazes, Phillips SHE9700s, etc., etc., etc.). In fact, on the few songs I have encoded in a lower bitrate (128kbps), it clearly brings out the compression artifact so much that I have since deleted them off my iPod/MP3 player and found higher bitrate replacements.-Build Quality: Build quality seems to be top notch. There's not much to note in this area, as you either have a solid piece of gear or you don't. These feel as if they will give you years of enjoyment. The cord is of high quality and restrains microphonics (Noise introduced into the ear canal by bumping or moving the cord) nicely. The buds themselves are solid plastic and have sort of a rough texture to them, making them easy to hold and insert/remove.-Mic Quality: These are effectively the same 'phones as the hf5, but with a mic and iPod control (And are also the same as an hf2, but with a better mic and iPod control). I find the mic to be top quality and use it daily via Skype on my iTouch Second gen with compliments on my clarity. I don't use the cord-mounted iPod controls very much, as I have found, when listening to just music, these 'phones work best with my Sony S639F due to the iTouch's flat bass response (See cons). But the times I did use the controls, they worked perfectly.-Fit: Etymotic includes 3 different pairs of tips. 2 sets of flanged tips (small and large), a set of "mushroom" tips and a set of foam tips. I have weird ears, so the only ones I could get to work, were the foam tips. But from what I have seen, most people prefer the flange type, although they have to go in the canal pretty deep and feel a bit odd at first.CONS-Bass Response: Bass response is a bit anemic, although quite accurate. I'm not a bass-head, but to me, the bass could stand to be boosted 3db or so. Don't get me wrong, it's not like some of the Shures with almost non-existant bass, but it could definitely stand to be a bit more pronounced. ESPECIALLY with the iTouch, which is engineered for a flat freq response. I've tried these with the iTouch, a Sandisk Fuze, a Sandisk Clip, and a Sony NWZ-S639F and found the Sony, paired with a Fiio E5 and these HF3s to be the perfect marriage. Clarity with just enough bass to be satisfying and not overpowering.-Price. These command a premium over the regular hf5's just for the addition of the iPod controls and mic. Had I known I wouldn't be using these for music listening as much on the iTouch, I would probably have bought the hf5's instead. But for those that want an all-in-one solution to use with their iPod/iPhone products, this is a nice upgrade from the hf2's single button controls. That's about it for the cons. I really love these phones and from what I've read, the transducers in these benefit greatly from burn-in, so I'm sure they'll warm up a bit over time and sound even more impressive. When I'm not actively listening to them, I have them breaking in using an awesome app JLab Audio has on their website. It runs various test tones and white noise to help with break in.Unless you're a total bass-head concerned more with booming bass than accuracy and clarity, or are not as sensitive to a flat low end frequency response, I can definitely recommend these.

2Great sound, bad connections
By Rudd Z
I have owned 3 pairs of Etymotic headphones with the iPhone remote controls over the past 3 years. The first pair, an Etymotic HF2 headset, worked great (wonderful sound) for a year. Then the connections in the splitter part (where it goes from one wire to two) frayed, and it lost sound in one ear. So, I bought another pair of HF2s, since the HF3s were not yet available. Those also lasted almost exactly 1 year.By that time, the HF3s were available, so I bought those. I was a little afraid of buying another pair of Etymotics, since the first two had only lasted one year, but I liked how they felt and sounded so much, that I decided to give a different model a chance. I bought those in August 2011, and last month, only half a year later, the same problem occurred: sound stopped flowing reliably to the left ear.Since then I've been playing with the cord to make it work for a few minutes at a time, until my movement knocks the connection loose again. Unfortunately, I don't think I'll be buying another pair of Etymotics, because I just can no longer trust their build quality, despite the good sound engineering.

5Fantastic Isolation that plays nicely with iOS devices
By Mitchell
Alright, so these are my first pair of decent headphones. I was previously rocking a pair of Sony 7506's, but decided to invest in a pair of isolating headphones for use in a dorm.==First impressions: Packaging was solid and there was no chance it was going to be harmed in the mail. It came with several different ear pieces; personally I liked the small flanges (pictured on Headroom), but there were large flanges and then two foamy ones (tear drop and cylindrical). The foamy ones seemed to be made out of a slightly better material then standard disposable earplugs. There's also replaceable filters (woo!) and a little shirt clip.==Everything but the sound:-The cord is pretty flexible and I really appreciate the 45° plug, but I being in ear, when the chord brushes up against something like a collar, the reverberations travel straight up to your ears. It's not horrible, but I would recommend using the included shirt clip if you're going to be bouncing around a lot.-The remote is pretty ligament -- buttons are nice and responsive and do all the same things as the Apple remote. Gotta say though, Apple's buttons are easier to use. Etymotic's buttons are great (very "clicky", easy to use without looking, rarely accidental double press), but the design is certainly a step down.-Ascetically wise, these things look sweet. They're not as flashy as some of the other ~$200 in ears, but frankly I prefer this subtle, classy, refined look. Feels like these will last a good long time.-Comfort. Well, it took me an hour or so to get used to having something shoved so deep into my ear. After a month of heavy use, it seems as if they slip in and out super easy and I can wear them for hours on end without irritation. For the level of isolation, they seem fantastic. That being said, these aren't a padded pair of open back cans.==Sound: Well, I'm not the best person to ask, but here's my best attempt.-Volume off of an iPod sounded great. Slider is usually right around the middle for older tracks more dynamic tracks, while new pop songs are in the lower 1/3rd.-Compared to the Sony MDR 7506s they have a WAY better low end response and everything seems "clearer" in general.-Listening to "Providence" from King Crimson's Red, every instrument seems to have "it's place". Acoustic tracks from Sleepy Sun's Fever sounded extraordinary - minute reverberations of the strings, tiny reverbs, and the main part was gloriously delivered to me through these headphones.-The microphone was equally exceptional. I only played around with it using "Voice Notes", but I was thoroughly impressed with it's clarity.==Conclusion: If you're looking for isolation and a sleek pair of buds that interfaces with iDevices, Etymotic HF3 does a great job.

5Love, love, love this watch
By K. Mahon
I love this watch. It is not quiiite as nice as the ceramic version but, once you get it sized correctly, it is really great. It feels heavy and looks flashy and I love it.The watch was easy to set and has been fun to wear!

3nice beginner watch
By Michael
I have a couple really nice watches but wanted to give a decent watch as a gift but not too pricey! I found this one and she likes it. Easy to size on your own. I would recommend as beginner watch as it doesn't have the best movement and the white band will be hard to keep clean as well as show scratches.

4Etymotic MC3's - Going In Deep
By a_recording
Note: This review is based on excerpts from a review I wrote on the earphone forum head-fi, the full review can be found by searching the same title. The review terms are a little technical, but googling an audio glossary might help :)The review makes numerous references to a similar earphone, the obscure but excellent Head-Direct RE0 found here:http://www.amazon.com/HeadDirect-RE0-HEAD-DIRECT-In-ear-Headphones/dp/B001MQ8BL6/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8=electronics&qid=1284009892&sr=8-1I purchased the MC3's from Etymotic directly. Shipping was extremely fast (express international courier to Australia.)What's in the Box- Spacer Laser Headset Pew Pew Pew! The Etymotics come in a nice, easy to open and classy though understated cardboard box with a flip up cover that shows off the little space lasers inside. I haven't posted pictures of the unboxing, because I think the whole fascination with the unboxing process is a little unhealthy, but rest assured the unboxing inspires confidence considering the price of the product. The accessory selection is relativey generous - you get a bag, filter changer and a pair of replacement filters, a pair of foam tips, the strange mushroom `glider' tips, and small and large silicone bi-flanges. The small tri-flanges come attached to the nozzle, which is surprising given how small they are. It does seem to be Etymotic's suggestion of how deep these are supposed to go in.Build Quality, Cables and Microphonics - BulletproofThis is probably the best part of the Ety's. The earphones are well built, and inspire a lot of confidence. The strain reliefs are meaty and thick, as are the cables which are supple with a nice texture, fairly tangle free and little memory effect. They are leagues ahead of any other earphones that I have - especially compared to the old style rigid RE0 cables. I'm not sure how much Kevlar is used in the product - I'm not even sure what the texture of Kevlar is - all I can say is that the cables are a high point. Microphonics/cable noise is average when worn down, and non-existent when either used with the included shirt clip or worn over the ear. With a 2 year warranty, I really couldn't be happier with the build quality of a 100 USD product.Comfort and Isolation- If You Find Brain on the Tip, You've Gone Too FarHere was my first stumble with the Etymotics. The MC3's have a narrower nozzle then I have ever seen on an IEM, though I understand this is relatively usual with sets from Shure, Ety, etc. The tips are described as deep insertion, and they were not kidding - I have never put anything so far into my ear canal except for Q-tips to clean my ears. And if you've ever used Q-tips to clean your ears, the feeling is almost identical. It took me a long while to adjust to the tri-flange silicone tips, and initially I found the tri-flanges desperately scratchy and uncomfortable. The flanges would scratch against my ear canals, the small tips were difficult to get a secure seal with, the big tips sealed but the flanges rubbed against my ears painfully. I found myself using the foam and glider tips more and more, which after intial insertion were comfortable. However, they did terrible things to the clarity, taking away so much sparkle that I went back to wrestling with the silicones. I preservered, given other Head-Fi members saying that as the silicone absorbed body oils, they would become softer and seal would be easier to achieve.I can say, after a few days, that thankfully this is true. I've worked out a way to insert them so that they are comfortable, no part of the nozzle is digging into my ear canal, and I get a seal each time. Unfortunately, this way means that I have to wear them down rather than over the ear, which means microphonics are an issue. Also troubling, is that swapping out the foam tips so many times, the glue that attaches the rubber cores to the foam is coming apart. So I'm essentially stuck with the silicone bi-flanges.Isolation is amazing, as expected. When music is playing you literally cannot hear anything else. This is dangerous in a way because not only can you not hear any screams if a dinosaur is going to attack your Jeep, but also because the lack of relative volume means that it's fairly easy to turn these up way too high.An important thing to note is that Etymotic is running a program which means that you can go to an audiologist and have custom tips made for you from ACS, with a total price including impressions of $100 USD. This seems to me to be an extremely reasonable offer, though you have to like the MC's enough to more than double their price as a package. I'm considering this option, as the comfort of customs seems pretty attractive.General Listening ImpressionsOverall, the MC3 is a mixed bag for me. It has an accurate, transparent and detailed sound, with excellent reproduction of all frequencies. They certainly wouldn't be considered warm - it remains on the dry side of analytical. Because of its relatively etched sound, in my opinion it does quite poorly when coupled with a harsh source. On a badly mastered track, or even one that is mastered a little `hot', the sound signature can be sizzling. This means that on any track where they add a high pass filter to make the vocals sound a little more dry - an effect really frequently used in electronic music - the effect is actually doubled and it can be quite painful to listen to. This isn't the kind of usual "S" or "F" sibilance (though this can have that as well), but more of a general aggression to the tone. In those cases, you have to turn down the volume, though thankfully the isolation is good for that. If you don't mind a bit of EQing, then with a bass boost the MC3's are really fantastic sounding. Soundstage and instrument separation are nothing unusual for this price point - nothing that stands out as particularly great, but not poor either. How much of this sizzling signature can be attributed to their hard to drive nature distorting the relatively low output on the iPhone headphone amp is hard to say. Certainly, it gets worse as you turn the volume up, which leads me to suggest not coupling the Ety with a weak source. The suggestion that switching to dynamic drivers have significantly increased the bass on the Ety's is somewhat misleading - though not Etymotic's fault, considering that they never made the assertion themselves as far as I know. While these have good bass extension, and more bass than an unmodded RE0, they should still be considered bass light. The sound of the Ety's can best be described as dry, with accuracy and extension on both ends - more bass extension than the RE0's and as much sparkle, but with less smoothness. This seems to match exactly with what Etymotic prides as their sound signature - tremendous accuracy and articulation. The signature is probably quite closed to a stock RE0 but fuller mids and better bass extension. Unfortunately, I cannot recall with 100% accuracy the sound of the RE0 before I messed with the foam. For a $99 dollar iPhone headset, or a $79 headphone, considering the build quality and isolation, the MC5's are great for anyone who would like an analytical sound, and who is relatively immune to sibilance. On another note, these are probably a great option for an iPhone headset at their price point, with the convenience of having music controls and a microphone really very useful. One amazing thing that I didn't consider is that the iPods allow for voice control for music playback with the microphone - for instance you can say "Play Arist The Flaming Lips" and it will do so, obeying your every whim. For anyone who is wondering if the headset version is worth the premium, the answer is yes, definitely. Also important to note is that the MC5s do offer an upgrade path in the form of the relatively cheap custom tip option. I can't say how much that would change the sound, but if I do take Etymotic up on their offer I will write updated impressions in the second post.If I had to choose between the MC5 and the RE0, it would be a harder question - depending on how important build quality and isolation was to the equation. The Ety's are more transparent and as long as nothing flips the sibilance switch, they sound detailed and balanced. For me, with the amount of electronic/filtered music I listen to, I think I personally still prefer the sound of the RE0's by a small margin - and only after I tweaked the RE0's to my taste. Your mileage may vary, as may it vary with the comfort and fit.Despite all this, it's good to keep in mind that the RE0's originally retailed at over two hundred dollars, and are still heavily recommended by people on head-fi as an excellent first choice at their price point - they are giant killers with a few flaws. In the same way, the MC5's have a mix of good and bad, but with their build quality the best I have ever seen, and great sound for the price, I would not hesitate to recommend them for someone with around that much to spend - as long as they are aware of the caveats.

2vs. Etymotic HF2 and Klipsch S4i (using iPhone 3GS)
By Handyman
I purchased 3 different in-ear earphones for use with my gixxer 600 sportsbike. I have repeatedly tested them using the same songs on my iPhone 3GS, same helmet and gloves for about 1 week. Here is how I would rate them (considering price):Klipsch S4i >>> noise isolation C, bass response A, remote A, ear canal comfort B. Cost $99Etymotic M3 >>> noise isolation A, bass response C, remote B, ear canal comfort C. Cost $99Eytmotic HF2 >>> noise isolation A, bass response B, remote C, ear canal comfort A. Cost 159The Etys were best at noise isolation (really blocks out engine and road noises). But there ENDS the similarities between M3 and HF2.The problem with M3 is its tiny 3-button remote is barely usable unless you have really tiny fingers (it gets worse when I am wearing gloves while riding, it is impossible to "feel" the buttons). The built-in microphone is also of poor quality (my buddies say I sounded thin over the phone). The actual speaker tubes are quite thick (inserting them into my ear canal caused a lot of stress and became uncomfortable after extended period of time). It is also the least sensitive (requiring about 25% more volume dial). Its sound quality very good but not as good as the HF2 or S4i.The HF2 is hands down the winner in all categories, but it is the most expensive one and lacks 3-button control. Although it uses the same 3-flange eartip as the M3, I found the HF2 very comfortable because its "balanced armature" speaker tubes are really tiny (about the size of a pencil lead, very easy to insert into ear canal). It also offers the highest sensitivity (requires about 25% less volume dial on my iPhone 3GS) and the highest accuracy (as in highs are clear, lows are punchy and none of the frequencies are over-blown). The noise isolation also superb (blocks out 90% of the engine and road noises). The S4i offers the best bass response. I would say it is about 50% stronger than the Etys. This much bass may or may not suit you, depending on personal taste. I find it great for hip-pop type of music but poor for instrumentals (the pianos sounded a bit distorted). Its microphone is better than HF2. Its 3-button remote is bigger and easier to use than HF2. Its sensitivity and accuracy are very close to the HF2. The only problem I want to point out is that S4i uses oval-shaped eartips that do not seal as well as the Etys. They did not fit my ear canal well and blocked out only half the noise. Comfort wise, it is better than M3 but worse than HF2.Of all these 3, I would say either go with the Etymotic HF2 for its supreme noise isolation, in-ear comfort and clarity - OR - go with the Klipsch S4i for its stronger bass and better remote. Skip the Etymotic M3 because it is uncomfortable (thick tubes), has tiny remotes (hard to "feel" buttons) and offers the lowest sensitivity (requires highest volume dial).

4Consumer Reports Got It Wrong
By Ed
Etymotic Research has daringly dove into the under $100 earphone category with their mc3 in-ear monitor headset (IEM). Competition in the earphone category has exploded, to say the least, thanks primarily to the iPod and iPhone. IEMs have popped up from just about every consumer electronics company known to man. Can Etymotic fend off the competitors with their latest "canalphones?"PROS:- Beautifully accurate and detailed- Durable build- Convenient inline remote & mic- Useful accessories included- 2 year warrantyCONS:- Under represented bass- Sound quality below average, out of the boxHistorically, Etymotic used balanced armature transducers in their high-end IEMs. The mc3 and mc5 are their first moving coil drivers, used mostly as a cost-reducing measure. I have often been let down by companies introducing "value" versions of their successful products so I was skeptical about the mc5s. Consumer Reports' rating did not invoke confidence either. I was able to obtain a pair of mc3's from Amazon for evaluation. As it turns out, Consumer Reports got it wrong and I almost did too.SOUND QUALITYMost of my review is based on the mc5, which I had the chance to listen to first but the mc3 and mc5 have identical sound characteristics. My initial impression of sound quality was not good. Though the details were phenomenal, it just did not sound right. I struggled with the 3-flange eartips for a good hour before I eventually found a better fit and seal with the gray glider eartips. Even with a good seal, I thought it was harsh with poor bass response. I had completed my review based on about 5 hours of critical listening but then decided to give them a 24 hour burn-in for a retest. In my opinion, those 29 hours of use completely changed the sound. The mids and highs were very detailed and clear and the harshness smoothed out. The bass improved slightly and retained a quality tight sound. I usually prefer a flat sound from headphones or speakers and my favorite headphones currently are the Sennheiser HD 555s. Despite this preference, I found the bass on the mc3/mc5 to be under represented. Eminem, Usher and Black Eyed Peas were not as enjoyable to listen to as Sarah McLachlan, Liz Phair, ELO, or Keane. If you prefer artificial bass, the mc3s are NOT going to be to your liking.SOUND ISOLATIONSound isolation with the mc3/mc5 is excellent. Etymotic claims 35-42dB of isolation. They are so good that you should take caution when using them while jogging or cycling outdoors. They are however, ideal for commuting on buses or trains and perfectly acceptable for air travel. Best of all, no bulky noise-canceling controls or batteries to deal with. There is some microphonic effect but attaching the shirt clip and or wrapping the cord behind your ears help.COMFORTSome people will not find universal Etymotic in-ear monitors comfortable. The default 3-flange eartips require them to be inserted far into the ear canal and it can be a harrowing experience. For me, the glider eartips were more comfortable and provided a better seal so even though Etymotic offers custom-fit eartips, I found at least one pair of comfortable universal eartips. One minor drawback to the glider eartips is that they make the rest of the IEM stick out further from your ear, but I personally don't care how I look with them. The 4 foot cord is a perfect length for a wide variety of portable use and the included shirt clip can help keep the cord in place while you're moving around. The slim inline remote responds well and the included mic is sufficient for phone calls.DURABILITYI own a couple of under $30 IEMs and never wanted to spend beyond that because I always feared breaking or losing them. Etymotic addressed that fear by coating the cables with Kevlar, providing a protective case, and backing it up with a 2 year warranty.MISCI really appreciated that the mc3s came with a protective case. It also included 4 types of eartips, shirt clip, a pair of filters, and filter removal tool.If you like the mc3 but don't need the inline remote and mic, go check out the Etymotic mc5. They have identical sound characteristics.CONCLUSIONThe sound quality of the mc3/mc5 improved greatly with some burn-in time and proved that Consumer Reports grossly misjudged them. Though I still feel that the bass response needs to be improved, I think the price for performance is very good. Etymotic IEMs are not for everyone, but if you prefer accurate details without distorted sound (bass boosting), then you are sure to enjoy the mc series from Etymotic.

514K Yellow Gold Round Wheat Chain (1.1mm) - 24 Inch
By terence howard
I purchased this as a gift. It came exactly as shown and described in a very nice gift box. It's a very nice chain, good quality, sturdy (to put a medal on it) and very attractive. I would recommend this chain to anyone who is looking for a chain that is simple but not too thin and strong enough to put a medal or a charm on it.
