Worked Perfectly
By Fred Johnson
I don't write reviews on many items, because most of the items I buy already have plenty of reviews. The Simpson Strong Tie Crack-Pac FLEX-H2O Polyurethane Crack Sealer Kit doesn't have many reviews, so I figured I would write one. There are 2 kinds of basement crack injection kits. One is Epoxy, which is used if there is a structural issue. The other is Polyurethane which is used to stop water from seeping into the basement. Most of the time a homeowner would need the polyurethane injection kit like this one, but if you aren't sure, have a professional come and check it out. I needed this polyurethane kit because I had water seeping into my basement through a crack that went all the way up my basement wall. The kit was very easy to use. The paste that you use to install the injection ports and block the crack was a little messy, but not bad. Also, before I used the paste, it looked like there wasn't much of it (2 small containers), and I was worried I would run out, but after I started using it, I realized that I had plenty. I had enough to do an 11 inch crack. One warning I can give about this paste is once you mix the 2 pastes together you have a minimal time you can work with it because it starts to harden. I would say maybe 5 minutes, so make sure you just mix a little bit at a time.I also had plenty of the polyurethane injection foam. My crack wasn't huge, maybe 3/16th of an inch in one 6 inch place, but most of the time it was 1/8th of an inch or below, and the crack hadn't gotten any bigger the 3 years I have lived in the house. I probably had enough injection foam to inject an 11 inch crack, but I didn't have enough injection ports. Personally I think you could space the ports greater than 8 inches apart, but I followed the instruction, because I didn't want to screw it up. The injection process was simple, and straight forward. The mixing was easy as long as you follow the instructions. I would say from start to finish it took me about 3 hours, but I also had people talking to me, so I might have been able to do it a quicker. In the end, this kit did exactly what it said it would do. I have a basement that is leak free, and we have gotten a lot of rain the last couple of days. My only complaint is that I wish it was a little cheaper, but it is worth the cost. I'm sure it would cost a whole lot more to have a company come out and fix it for you, and they would probably use the same injection kit.

Straight Forward, Easy DIY, Exactly as Advertised

While I normally hate when people include reviews of the merchants in their product reviews; I think it is appropriate here. If it were not for the help of Customer Service at FastoolNow I would have purchased the non-expanding, ETIPAC10, and would not have had as good of a product experience. After explaining my situation, that I had cracks in my foundation footing, but because of concrete rat pack on the inside I could not paste over both sides completely, it was advised that I used the expanding H2O Polyurethane version instead. The product worked better than expected. I highly recommend watching the Simpson Strong Tie instructional video [...]. Preparation is everything, get everything ready before you attempt to mix any epoxy, either for patch over or the filler. I found that a wire brush and a can of compressed air prepped the surface the best, as opposed to water from a hose or a vacuum. I would say that the hardening time for the patch over material is strongly understated. I found that even in 60 degree Fahrenheit, not in direct sunlight, and with a decent humidity that the resin still harden in about 10 minutes (about 5 minutes to mix and 10 to apply).I also found that while they give you two sets of crack filling tubes, the single set of patch over was only enough for one crack filling tube worth of patch over material and ports (I have one set of crack filling tubes and half the plastic ports left over (that is because I patched over both sides of the crack as much as possible)... so I am buying more patch over separately so I can use the rest of the crack filler. I do highly recommend trying to expose as much of the crack as possible and patching it over before you attempt filling. Even though this stuff is expanding, it is still pretty much a liquid initially, and it surprisingly does go through the entire crack fully. I saw the excess coming out at the both the top and bottom of my patch over on the inside and outside.I do recommend having about quantity 6+ of 8in x 8in or larger cardboard sheets ready to mix the epoxy patch over on (I only made about 1-part each golf ball sized amount at a time), the popsicle sticks are pretty useless and break easily (I would recommend using the Bondo Squeegee Body Filler Spreader instead to apply and maybe even to mix with (you can get that at any auto store), and use a thicker latex glove or have extra available as the ones they supply are the thinnest possible and will tear easily.

Good

Fast delivery and the product was as described. It appeared to work and seal the cracks. But the jars of epoxy for gluing the injection ports had some large umps, and it is really a two person job. I mixed enough to install several ports the first time, a mistake. The ports started to slide down, I had to hold the port in place and then attempt to put epoxy on top of the crack with one hand before it got too stiff. This resulted in several places with leaks when injecting the urethane. You don't really have time to mix more epoxy to seal leaks after you start injection, you need another person to do it.It is a nice setup, the surface ports with valves work, the injection hose had an auto shut port to prevent drips. But I think it would be easier to drill holes and use insertion type ports. I would buy this again, but it wasn't as easy as the video indicated.
