I've been using a Rio Cali for about 6 or 7 years for running, and it was indestructible. The only thing that stopped it was lack of support for a 64-bit operating system. That and the fact that it had all of 256MB (plus a 500MB SD card that brought the capacity to nearly a gig).I did a ton of research, and I leaned toward Creative (I'm not an Apple fan). I have the older Creative Zen W 60 GB, but that's hard-drive-based and not good for exercise. And I'm not happy with the direction some of the newer flash-based Creative models have taken. I noticed this new Sony was getting good reviews, after mediocre reviews for some of its predecessors, so I checked it out and bought it.This thing is very easy to use, and the screen is nice--perfect for viewing the album playing and title, but not SO nice that I'm afraid to scratch it while exercising. So far, I've been running a few times with it, and the battery indicator hasn't gone down at all. It puts out good sound, even with the included earbuds, which aren't bad (I like the Creative EP-630 In-Ear Noise-Isolating Headphones at work). At first I thought the sound was muddy, but then I had the sound settings on fake surround "studio," along with an equalizer set to pop. Since I listen to bands like REM and Radiohead, I didn't think of using the equalizer setting "heavy." When I took off the fake surround and set the equalizer to heavy, everything suddenly popped. I was listening to REM's New Adventures in Hi Fi (heavy on the guitars) and Vampire Weekend's Contra. Both sounded superb. Vocals and guitars were clear, and there was just enough bass to fill out but not overpower the sound. The Creative headphones add an extra level of bass, if you're looking for that.For the price, you can't beat it. And it syncs FAST. I had 8GB loaded in no time--which brings me to one of only 2 complaints. I really wish they made a 16GB version. I didn't want the Sony S-series with its speakers, so I went with this model. Because it's for exercise, I can fill it with stuff that I'm likely to listen to while running and leave off the 6-CD classical collections, so I'm good. It's just that 16GB would give a little breathing room. The only other complaint is the volume buttons. It's kind of hard to feel exactly where the up vs down are, since they're almost flush with the player and give no tactile feedback. Oh, and if you don't put it on "hold," I've found it's VERY easy to accidentally turn back on.It's easy to find what you want, even during exercise (by artist, genre, album, whatever), and the "tempo" feature is a great idea to help mix things up. I probably won't ever use the video features on this (with its 2" screen), but it's perfect for displaying functions and the currently playing album. The button position and overall user experience is great--you just pick it up and know what things are for. There's an on/off button, a back button, and a "wheel" in the middle that's a combination of pause, play, forward, reverse, and a way to navigate functions. Not the cutting edge in a user interface, but I'll take excellent sound, long battery life, and easy integration with Windows Media and other programs any day.Great product for the money.

I really enjoy my Sony. It is small and user friendly. The cost of the product makes it a fantastic value. The drag and drop features make transfering music and videos a breeze! My son had to have an IPOD. He paid twice the money and did not get the FM turner. I use mine daily at the gym. and find it allows me to enjoy the workout with the music of my choice.

I'll start off by saying that, if you want an MP3 player that absolutely destroys the iPod [insert model], then you've come to the right place. Perhaps, I'm speaking too soon, as I've only had this for about a month, but the experience so far with the NWZ-E354 has been phenomenal. I spent an entire 3 days researching what MP3 players were the best, and everything kept pointing to the Sony Walkman series, and I'm glad I took the plunge on the E354.-----**Sound: The audio quality produced by this petite MP3 players is splendid to say the least. Straight out of the box, I was immediately impressed with the clarity of the sound. It doesn't have any sort of "tinny" sound that you find in lower-quality PMPs or even some iPods. The sound produced by the E354 is full and rich even without any EQ adjustments. Though, tweaking the equalizer makes the sound even better. There's a few presets already, plus 2 custom equalizer profiles that you can adjust yourself. Of the presets that are already on the device, the 'Unique' EQ profile is my favorite by far. It emphasizes the low and high end that often seem subdued, and brings the music to life. I also must mention that I'm using the E354 with my Ultrasone HFI-780 headphones, which are relatively low-impedance full-size headphones, and the E354 drives them perfectly. For those of you who run higher-impedance headphones like the Sennheiser HD600, you'll probably need a dedicated amp to go with the E354, though you probably already know that if you own such high-end cans. ;)**Ease of use: The E354 is a very no-nonsense device. It has tactile buttons that feel very responsive. I'm glad that there's no fussy touchscreens to deal with, as the majority of companies these days like to include the novelty of touchscreens on their devices. It's only when the customer starts using the touchscreen devices that they realize how cumbersome/annoying they become. So, I'm glad Sony didn't take that route. They delivered a simple-to-use MP3 player with REAL buttons, and I commend them for that. Also, the 'play' and 'volume up' buttons have small protrusions for making blind-navigation easier. In general, the E354 is easy to navigate without looking, despite the buttons seeming like they are flush. Useful for jogging!Navigation of the E354 menus is very simple. I won't go into details, as they are pretty straightforward. But I will say that there is no lag when navigating around. The menus are well-designed and the excellent-looking screen provides easy to read letters, vibrant colors, and a snappy response rate.**Software: I haven't bothered with the software that's included, and to me, the software that Sony provides isn't necessary by any means. I like the simplicity that 'drag & drop' MP3 players provide, and the E354 delivers on that part. There's no noticeable lag when connecting/disconnecting the MP3 player from my Windows 7 64-bit computer, so adding/removing files from the device is a breeze.*Battery Life: With the 50 advertised hours that Sony claims, I wouldn't be surprised if it exceeded that amount. I'm running off of a full charge right now, and have been playing it continuously for well over 15 hours, and the battery is still at 4 bars. For an MP3 player, battery life is essential, so fortunately, the E354 meets those expectations well.**Features: The E354 offers a ton of features. Off the bat, there's the awesome equalizer functionality, a myriad of listening modes (e.g. studio, live, auditorium, etc), an FM tuner, video playback, karaoke function, lyric display, a speed control function, and some other miscellaneous sound-enhancing features. The E354's big brother, S545, offers a bit more features like external speakers, a larger screen, voice recorder, and 16GB storage, but suffers in battery life by about 15% (only 42 hours of music playback), and also doesn't include karaoke/lyric mode. Every other feature seems to be equal, including the sound quality. I think for a price difference of $60 USD between the two (meaning S545 = double the cost of E354), the E354 is definitely the one that offers the best bang for the buck, unless you really need the few extra features that the S545 provides.**Build quality: The E354 is made of glossy plastic on the front, and smooth matte plastic on the back, which gives it a very light feel. Although being made of plastic, the E354 doesn't come off as feeling "cheap". Rather, it feels very minimalistic, in a good way, as Walkmans have always been. But it's definitely not as robust as an iPod. Though, similarly featured iPods are a lot more expensive.**Cons: I've read that the software seems to be clunky, but I haven't really touched the software, so I can't comment on any of the annoyances stemming from there. But again, I will say that the software being entirely optional is a good thing for an MP3 player.I really hope that this MP3 will continue to deliver for a long time, as it provides all of the features a good MP3 player should have -- sound quality, ease of use, and good battery life -- without being over the top. A lot of other companies sacrifice those essential features for trivial features like web-browsers, apps, GPS, and things along that line. For $60-70, the E354 is a marvel of a MP3 player.-----The E354 is seriously an awesome beast of an MP3 player. Buy it! You won't be disappointed!
