This is my favorite of the recent new designs from Fender, the HH Blacktop series. This Tele comes hot-rodded right out of the box. Also available are the HH Blacktop Strat, Jag and Mustang. There are three colors to choose from: black, candy-apple red and silver, all with black scratch gaurds and your choice of maple or rosewood boards.* Dual covered 'buckers - overwound Alnico* Deep black paint job* Nice slick rosewood board on a maple neck* String thru body* 22 Medium jumbo frets* Triple layer black scratch gaurd* Amp-style tone and volume knobs* Switch-between pickupsBehold the made in Mexico alder body and bolt-on maple neck with premuim Fender enclosed tuners. The price on this Tele is outstanding. It's not a beginner's cheapo. It features good quality components and top of the line craftsmanship that you expect from Fender. It might not be the American Tele, but it doesn't have that sky-high price either. The difference is that this Made in Mexico model doesn't have the junk pick-ups you're used to from their Mexican plant. These Alnicos rock.Teles are known for their snappy tone. The HH Blacktop has that trademark twang, but just turn up the gain a little and you're off to the metal show. I didn't detect any hollowness in the tone, as is the case with some cheaper humbuckers. There's nothing cheap about this baby. The action right out of the box was a little high, but a quick adjustment to the bridge fixed that with no other set-up necessary. One more important difference is that this Tele has a "gut cut", the contour cut into the back of the body like a Strat has. I hadn't seen that before on a Tele. It actually makes a difference in the comfort when playing. It's not just a flat plank. Pretty cool.I'm glad I waited for the release of the HH Blacktop series. The value is unmatched in today's market. The black color is striking. The paint job is truly flawless. The tones are highly vairable and rockin'. I'm glad to add this one to my collection. Keith Richards would be proud to own this model. But be prepared, this is not your grandfather's Tele.

This is not my first Tele, I already own 5 others, but this one is different. It doesn't have the classic "Tele" single coil tones, but it sounds and plays great. I'm very happy with this guitar.

i am a fan of this blacktop series,because it delivers the power we heavy rockers want.i have always loved the tele body design,and have owned about 3 in the past.the tele is firmly entrenched as a twangy,country,rockabilly,blues,etc. guitar,but is fully capable of delivering the goods as its tonal range is vast.i previously wrote about the blacktop strat i bought,and was wowed by.i vowed to buy the tele ,and did.i bought the silver with maple fretboard,and as with the strat,changed the 9's to EB power slinkys 11's.the neck is a tad bit thinner,or so it feels,and is fast,as is the strat neck.at practice a few days ago,i was putting this through a gruelling workout.i plugged into a line 6 hd 147 head,and a 4x12 genz benz "G FLEX" stereo bottom,and blew up the studio!!.this is one amazing guitar with a ton of tone,and power.i know it is a low budget guitar,but,a friend who plays for a nationally recorded band,recently bought a squier classic vibes tele,and uses it live as his first guitar.he has about 10 fender teles,none of which are below 1000.00 retail.he saw how i set up this guitar and jammed with us,and bought one the following day with my string set-up ordered to his guitar tech.my point is,if you are a fender guy,and most especially a tele guy the cost should be of no concern.another locally recorded bands guitarists use an ibanez jet king,and the other a jay turser silverburst les paul copy.these guys leave you with a dropped jaw.if you are happy with how it plays,and sounds,who cares if you play a 3000.00 prs,or gibson lp custom?it took me 5 years to finally whittle down my choices,as favorites to play.this is the length of time i have been playing.i am a staunch ESP "F" series lover,MUSICMAN "PETRUCCI" lover,MICHAEL KELLY "VALOR" lover,PARKER "P42" lover,these FENDERS,and PRS "CUSTOM 24" lover.getting back to the tele......this is a great guitar,worth every dime,and then some.it practically plays itself.it is a great beginner guitar,and i say this because it is well built and will be with you for life.do not shy away from this series,which will probably be a limited run,it costs the same as a made in mexico tele,and that you can have a H/S/S pick up configuration,and 2 additional color choices however the H/H configuration is just as capable of giving you the same tonal qualities,and then some.this series also offers you the jag,and jazzmaster models as well.this series offers something for everybody.the two i have purchased are comfortable to play,lighter weighted bodies,and very fine ,fast necks,you can set it up to your liking,(as with any guitar),but it is an adventure which will bring the fun back to playing.i will probably restring the tele with D'ADDARIO 9'S,as i used the 11's on our new cd,and got what i wanted raw ,melodic power,and searing highs.this brought a different feel to our song "MEANSTREAK",which i originally did with a tele strung with 9's,and set low for speed.when listening to both versions we opted for this guitars version.we played a gig the other night for a friends birthday,and we opened with UFO'S "TOO HOT TOO HANDLE",we start it the same way every time,i hit an "E",hard and loud,once,then the pyros,and we jump into the song.we didn't have time to do a sound check ,so i was counting heavily on this guitar to deliver,and it did......all this dialogue was really unnecessary,but it was my intent to put you in the drivers seat,and playing it.it is a fine guitar,and you will be as happy with it,as i am.
