Pretty decent scope for the price
By Uncle Jaque
This scope was purchased in order to test a "Scout" carbine system without investing more than the cost of the rifle into it. It isn't a Zeiss, Bushnell or Leopold but I didn't expect one for that $. For the price it's a well built and finished optic.Amazon was good to work with, no "PayPal" hassles, and they got it to me ahead of schedule.Having mounted and sighted it in, it seems to maintain zero on a .308 carbine firing full military loads (about a dozen so far). I wish that it had a somewhat shorter eye relief, as I don't have enough in the prone or bench position with it mounted as far forward as it will go on the AIM military Mauser sight mount base. Lesson learned; for a scout, get an "Intermediate" eye relief in stead of a pistol scope.Using the 4X setting at 100 yards it seems that there is a little distortion, but was able to acquire target and hit fairly well in spite of it. Have not gone all the way up to 7X yet but suspect it will be about the same. The adjusting knob clicks are a little mushy and hard to count by feel, but adequate. The edge of a dime works fine to turn them, and I keep one under the screw on protective dial cap. When the eyepiece is screwed back to focus, it gets loose and sloppy, and I'm pretty sure that another couple of turns and it would fall right off. When locked with the ring though it snugs right up and stays put.It seems that after tweaking the zero around, the horizontal reticle hair seems to lean a bit to the left while the vertical is straight up & down as best as I can get it. As long as it puts bullets where (or near) where they cross that's good enough for me.The included rings are good quality, but I replaced them in order to extend the scope a little further forward and lower it.I have little doubt that if used for hunting, It would be likely to fog up in cold or wet weather or have other problems if used roughly - but for informal plinking, target shooting for an old gaffer like me with failing eyesight, or as a test bed for setting up and experimenting with the LER / "Scout" system, it does the job better than I expected for such an entry level price. For a more detailed report with illustrations / photos of my set up, see my postings on:[...]
