Hitachi L32S504 LCD TV - AWESOME

I bought this TV about a month ago after doing a TON of searches for this model looking for any feedback... and i found only 1.I think the main reason why is because this is a newer TV, manufactured only this year, so it's not out there in large quantities yet.Well... I gave it a month and now it's time for my feedback.I LOVE THIS TV. That is the best description.The picture clarity is really quite awesome!The set has some kind of advanced video tuner and you can set it from Low to Medium to High.Well, i'm a tinkerer and instead of reading directions, i go through all the menu's and set what i THINK is the best. So when i got to this setting i put it on high.What was a little off putting at first is that when watching HD TV (regular tv as well as movies), the picture frequently changes where it feels like one moment you're watching TV and the next moment the entire scene/screen cuts to a LIVE shot. I don't know how to describe this fully. Images and people are so enhanced that it literally seems like there is a set of bleachers and you're sitting in them watching them act/film... again, as if it's live.Although this is cool, it's also a new way of watching tv. At times i found it distracting and it even made me debate on returning the TV. The flip side though is that the picture quality was so incredibly sharp, you could actually see the stiching in characters clothing! Amazing.Anyhow, when the scenes cut to appearing "live" there is also a sense that it is computer enhanced. So i finally got out the manual to find out what was causing this.I found it in the "REEL120 Motion" setting. I set it to LOW and that resolved the issue.In fact, I joke with my wife that this TV is a "3D wanna be!"In all, I could not be happier with this machine.The picture clarity and quality is outstanding. There's all kinds of picture modes and multiple times where you can actually set the machine to be "pro day" during daylight hours or when the room is brightly lit and "pro night" which changes the settings and darkens the screen some when the room is darker. This is especially useful if the TV is in the bedroom as it's not quite as bright. It has multiple energy savings features, 4 HDMI built in and so much more.One last thing to note, you know how you'll be watching a regular broadcast channel and then when a commercial comes, the screen goes from 16:9 to 4:3 and you have the dark vertical lines on the left and right of the screen? Well, with this machine, the BLACK's are so good, that every now and then you can't really tell that the screen changed. You look away, look back and think... hmmm, something's different and then in a few moments the screen gets bigger again. The Blacks are so dark, it does not jump out at you when the screen changes. And lastly... this TV does the best job of any TV i've ever owned of keeping the volume consistent when the TV program goes to a commerical. I thought my Samsung LDC did a decent job of lowering the volume when commercials came on, but nothing like this machine. In the month we've been using it, i think we've had to lower the volume on only 1 channel when commercials come on vs. nearly all of them!If you look around, you'll find this TV for under $500.My only real criticism is in the volume control, actually. It's DIFFICULT to program a universal remote (like the Harmony 880) so that when you do volume up or down, it goes by only 1 numbered increment at a time. Instead, when you do volume up or down, it goes up by 2 or 3 at a time. I've done custom setting changes now on my Harmony and it's helped but still... i wish the tv reacted better to the volume commands.Other wise, I just can't complain. It's a great tv and a great price.UPDATE... it's now 4 months in total since buying this tv. My review remains the same. I'm very pleased and am considering buying a 2nd now to replace the LR tv. Price came down $20.00 too at the place i bought it originally.

Excellent!

This is an incredible TV for the money. It can be had for less than $500 if you shop it around. It is very feature rich and able to do things only found on the larger sets. I shopped around for several months before taking the plunge. I looked at every 32" TV under the sun. In the end it boiled down to only 3 sets and this was one of them. I was lucky enough to have access to lots of different sets my local stores. I spent a lot of time playing with this one before making the purchase.It is VERY difficult to find any information on this particular set. I searched high and low and only found a couple of reviews. Seeing and playing with the set in the store is what ultimately led me to buy it. SD picture quality is only OK. But the HD picture quality is nothing short of incredible. The sound system is also very good for a thin LCD. I have it wall mounted in a medium sized room and the sound is fine. It is more powerful than most sets this size.My only complaint is the finish. I wish it were a "matte" finish. I'm betting that over time that the finish will become scratched.This is an excellent TV and I would recommend it to anyone looking for a 32" LCD TV!

Great TV

I came across this TV on clearance for $300.00. After reading the only 2 reviews I could find (the above reviews) I decided to purchase it. It was a great decision. The picture quality is amazing and the sound is great in our small living room! I agree that this HDTV seems like a 3-D wanna be. My husband wasn't sold on getting a new TV when the old one worked fine but now he is thrilled with our purchase. The setup was simple and it works great with our FIOS TV. Husband had no problem setting up his Harmony remote to work with the TV. And for the price I paid this deal can't be beat!!

good for people wanting to learn.

I purchased to learn some bass with out spending an arm and a leg.Seems fairly solid with an okay sound. More than fine to learn with and to play with some friends. However I wouldn't suggest it for playing at shows.The amp is ok doesn't get quite as loud as i would like but again since i'm just learning that is a good thing for the world.The gig bag is just to make sure it doesn't get wet or dusty in a moderate environment such as a closet.The strap is trash at best. but should work well and long enough for you to decide if you want to keep playing.The DVD seems to give some good basic information on bass and normal guitars and is handy for anyone learning the ropes.Over all seems to be a decent product for learning but if you are more serious you will want to look for higher quality

Bought this for my 11yr old son after he struggled to use my bass. The bass is really good. The neck is straight and frets are welll dressed. This is my 2nd SX instrument. They are very well made. Expect to pay at least double for something comparable from a music store. The amp isn't very good though. But to be fair, you need at least 75watts for a bass to sound good anyway. The amp is useful to practice with in a bedroom. I would have paid $120 for bass alone and been happy. So, consider the amp a free gift.

A SUPERLATIVE, ALBEIT COMPLEX, WORKSTATION

I'd give the Motif XF8 4.5 stars if that option were available, because, as one of the most costly workstations available, it lacks a few features that ought to be standard and its complexity is a but daunting. Otherwise, it really is an amazing machine. The sounds alone justify the cost and a five star rating.First and foremost, the sounds that the machine generates are the best I've heard. A guitar actually sounds like a guitar, nearly as good as when I record on my Martin and without mistakes. I am primarily a piano player, and the piano voices are top notch. There might be better dedicated piano units available (the Nord Stage comes to mind), but the Motif gets very close. I also like the balanced hammer action. Though it is not as weighted as dedicated top end stage pianos. the action offers sufficient tactile response to make playing easy and responsive. The performance mode is very useful as a starting point to creating music. They are widely varied, offering something for every style. I particularly like it that there are great jazz and classical performances to use. Far too many modern keyboards are geared nearly exclusively to hip-hop and similar styles, leaving those who play more traditional styles out in the cold. You are limited to playing four voices at one time (one of those includes the drum pattern), which is rather meager for a workstation of this level.The Motif is a complicated creature. This is in large part because it does so many things. One can literally create a full composition from scratch, sample, perform, edit, mix, and record it. The problem is that Yamaha could not be bothered creating a manual that actually explains how everything works. I have barely scratched the surface of its capabilities, due in large part to the ridiculously spartan owner's manual. For a machine this capable and complex, you'd think Yamaha could have spent a little more effort putting together a manual that actually shows the owner how to extract its full potential. or at least have decent online support. But that is equally useless. Be prepared to learn the complexities on your own. The motifator forum is very good, and offers a lot of help, but you end up wasting a lot of time rummaging through various threads and posts trying to find information that should have been in the manual to begin with.There are a few features that are lacking in this flagship unit. For one thing, there is no flash memory included, only a measly 128mb of volatile RAM. Try downloading any set of voices, and you will quickly see that they far exceed this puny onboard memory. Which means you have to pay $150-$300 for either 512 or 1 gb of flash memory. Yamaha makes the flash proprietary, so you cannot install standard flash cards. So, that's $600 extra for 2 gb of flash rom, at least half of which is probably necessary.Yamaha also sells as a $300 option a firewire expansion port which allows us to record audio into a computer via firewire, instead of the standard USB port which only allows MIDI. If you want to record audio-don't we all?-you have to spring for the card or buy an separate interface. I already own an Apogee Duet, which works just fine, but if you don't, that's yet another expense. The firewire port should be standard.I am still learning the interface of the Motif, but my initial impression is that it is far from user friendly. There are countless tiny black buttons protruding from the black metal body (which is of a rough texture, and holds fingerprints like superglue) not color-coded in any way. The display is good but not great. There is a lot of information in very small font size, and to move from screen to screen entails trying to line up and press the correct physical button that corresponds to the menu on the screen. It is quite clumsy. On the other hand, there is a physical button (even if it is small and looks like every other one) for nearly every important control, so there is a lot less digging through screens than there might be. Still, Yamaha could do much better in the ergonomics department.The internal sequencer is MIDI only, very useful, but an audio recorder would be welcome. Trying to record the MIDI from the internal sequencer to a DAW (something that many would want to do) is more complicated than building a spy satellite. I still haven't figured it out and can't find much assistance. This is the inherent problem with the Motif. It does so many things and most of them quite well, but because only the most basic functions are explained, it is easy to spend hours and hours trying to figure out how to record something, for example.So, in the end, I just end up playing the keyboard as a piano, and that is always enjoyable.

Amateur User of the Motif XF8

I couldn't agree more with the previous reviewer. At the date of this writing, I have had the XF8 for almost a year. I spent four months reviewing, testing and generally playing around with the functions of this unit. There will come a point where it all comes together. The user will have to be patient and expect failure on an intended action several times over. The user will have to cross reference the user manual with the reference manual many times. Motifator is very helpful and one should expect to do alot of research in the forums.I have not regretted my purchase. The learning curve is very high and yet, I have now come to a point where I can plan out any full score composition and have the Motif make it work for me.

My husband tried the piano as soon as we recieved it and he could not stop until midnight. We had two other keyboards and none of them has the same effect as this one. He loved it so much.Also, the company J&R Music and Computer World has a very good customer service. perfect for budget-conscious

This was really easy to install, and despite being cheaper than other models out there, holds up very well to "abuse." I put abuse in quotes because every drum shield needs to be folded up in a corner, moved around by 1 or two slats at a time, have the bottom scrape across carpet to move, get bumped and hold true against moving bodies and microphone stands... this shield performs admirably.Highly recommended at the price point, and why not spend a little more elsewhere when you don't need to drop $800 on a shield!

Nearly as strong as a Samsung LED, nearly half the price!

I bought mine from Sam's Club (for the same price). I was able to look at this right next to a $1150 Samsung LED unit, and it was only 5-10% less impressive than that TV, except that this one is a LCD! Another great feature was that it has audio outputs. I'd purchased a lesser TV and returned it because the audio wouldn't sync up with the HDMI, so people's lips weren't in sync with the sound of their voice on my surround system. Having audio outs fixed that problem. I could brag on this TV for a while, but the most concise way of saying it is that I don't watch TV much, usually DVD and BluRay, a bit of HD Animal Planet maybe. Haven't justified spending money on a new TV before, but this one was simply too good a deal to pass on, too impressive a picture for the money ($649). When I researched it, they were going for over $1000 just a few months before. From the quality of both the sound and the pictures, I tend to think it was worth that price as well!Summary: Great deal, first-rate product at a discount price. No regrets!Follow-up: Hitachi has a Firmware update available for this TV. Go to [...] and you'll find the link for Downloads. Transfer the files from your hard drive to a USB media, and install to get to 2.1 rather than the 2.0x that it may have shipped with. Biggest changes I noticed are that it seems to be more prepared for digital TV channels... but also that some of the (mostly unwanted) digital foreign language channels aren't coming in anymore.

This was Hitachi's new model June 2010. Sam's Club had it (special purchase) at $648. Maybe they still do. I grabbed it and could not be more pleased. I note none of the problems that were reported on previous version (L42S503).

Bought the tv friday, got the hdmi cables saturday and it's absolutely amazing. Checked out a friend's brand new 50 inch 3d tv and mine is just as good!! Easy set up, beautiful bright picture, more hdmi inputs than I even need. Can't say enough good things about the tv. Plus, buy it at Sam's club, cheapest extra 2 year warranty around, 50 bucks!!

If youre not interested in honing and stroping a straight razor but still want to use a great high quality product that is just as sharp if not sharper with disposable blades this is the razor for you.The blade holder is made of high quality brass and the holder assembly grips the blade firmly in place using pressure. The best part about the razor is disassembly and clean up!Simply apply pressure to the center of the blade holder and slide the front of the holder right off! Its machined and built perfectly.Easily rinse any stray hair or soap or cream that may remain and dry off with a hair dryer or paper towel and slide the blade holder/assembly back into place.This razor has fantastic weight and does the work for you. No pressure needed. Rarely does a product surpass my expectations and this razor definitely does.I bought one to shave with and I also bought another to do line and edge ups with. If youre in the market take a pass on a shavette and other cheap offerings and spend a little more on this. Youll be glad you did in my opinion.

A man's most trusted shaving tool.

This is truly a great razor, I wish I could have ran into this item years ago. The blades are pretty sharp. Definitely not for amateurs. I've never had a slit or a cut with this razor. You have to remember this isn't a toy for you to rush into things you need to take your time. It's an art that takes patience and precision. The only negative comment I could say about this razor is the cleaning up. At times I would get hair or shaving cream inside the razor slit. I Never had the same problem with other razors when it came to cleaning up the hair and product.

Great Value!

I ordered the Crocsill 500 Thread count 100% cotton mattress pad to provide a touch of cushy comfort and luxury to our Eastern King mattress. We recently took our honeymoon aboard Holland America's Oosterdam and the mattresses were so cushy. We wanted to recreate that feeling as closely as possible on our Sleep Number mattress without breaking the bank. Our mattress isn't the plushest model available, though it isn't without a pillow top. So we weren't after a deep cushion, just some added luxury. That said, this mattress pad really delivers.The best features of the product are its crisscross elastic sides, because they really grip the mattress and hold the pad in place; and the quilted cushioning, which seems very high quality to me. I did launder the pad according to instructions and I used the air dry feature of my dryer to ensure I didn't over-heat the padding or elastic. The moment we laid down on the pad for the first time, we felt like we had come close to recreating the luxury we experienced on the ship (well... as close as you can on a budget). We also purchased some Egyptian cotton sheets, which you can read about in another review, and the combination of this pad and those sheets was fabulous.You should be aware that the mattress pad fit very snugly. I prefer that, personally, because I don't like the pad shifting under the sheet. Also, I'm sure the pile on the cushioning will flatten out over time. You do get what you pay for. But for luxury on a budget, I'll be happy with a year for the money we spent. :-)/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/UPDATE:It's a year and a half later and I thought I'd update my review. I stated originally that I would be happy if the pad lasted a year for the money we spent on it. Well, color me ecstatic - it's a year and a half later and I have zero complaints. I routinely use the same process described originally to launder the mattress pad, and the elastic and padding are holding up beautifully. I am extremely pleased with this product's durability.

Just what I wanted!

So far I am very happy with what I purchased.The title of the product is a little misleading. I thought it would be all cotton, but it ends up having polyester backing and side skirts with a cotton top and filling. It is very thick and has made it successfully out of the washer and dryer. The polyester backing did not melt as some other products have done when dried. It fits my cali king bed perfectly as well.I have a new California King mattress and it is very thick. I had no problem getting it to fit.If you are like me and wanting something that is not "water proof" but rather a soft breathable and washable cover for your mattress I would recommend you give this a try. It is definitely worth the money and surprisingly thick and soft.

Very comfortable and easy to care for

When I purchased this mattress pad, there was only one review to guide me in my purchase decision.:( <=== sad face is sad.I took a chance and bought a pair. I've loved having this pad on my bed. It is very comfortable. It does not have any coating on the underside to prevent moisture from getting to your mattress. For me, this is a good thing. These barriers can often times make the pad uncomfortable since they don't breathe as well as a normal mattress pad.The reviews I've read about other pads will tell how the underside coating flakes and is generally a cleaning nightmare. Not so with this pad. Since it is mostly cotton, it just washes like normal sheets.This pad fits very tightly to the mattress, so you also don't get any movement or wrinkling under the sheets as you may encounter with some others. I am very happy with my purchase and encourage others who may be on the fence about purchasing to feel confident in purchasing this pad. It has exceeded my expectations, and for the price I feel it's a good deal.

Real Straight Razor Shave (without the hassle of honing)

The Feather Artist Club DX Japanese razor is an exceptionally well made tool. It's made of heavy stainless steel and has a thick and tacky rubber handle, which give a confident feel in my hand. The fact that there are no scales to flip around and hold between fingers also make it easy to use.The blades are held securely by a stiff spring clamp, and I've been using the Feather 'Super' blades and getting nice results. All the Feather blades are extremely sharp, but I wouldn't say "too sharp" as I've read in some reviews here and elsewhere. The fact that I don't have to hone or strop is a bonus, as it always took lots of time (which I'm always short of), and I never achieved the edge that I wanted.So far, I'm enjoying my new razor, and plan on keeping it in use from now on. It's so well made, that I don't think that longevity will ever be a problem with it, and I'll probably teach my son to shave with it when he's old enough.

LOVE THIS RAZOR!!!!

If you are new to straight razor shaving...this is for you!!! I know it is pricey and there is a great reason why!! I just started learning how to use a straight razor about 6 months ago and have bought all kinds of set ups this is probably the last straight razor I will ever have to own for the balance of my life. I looked at it as an investment due to the price of the various conventional shavers. The last package I purchased cost me about $40 for a pack of 10 and I could be off on both of those numbers.(But not far) As I see it I will make up the cost of this beautiful tool that is so well engineered that I seriously do not know how it could break from normal daily use!!!You will recover the total cost of this in about 15 months and you will get a better shave every time!!!

Excellent shears for price. I'm in cosmetology school and ordered these in size 5.5 as second pair for use and I like them best for long hair because they are little longer than my 5.0. At local salon supply store they sell for $130
