I have worn these boots once in 50 degree water since buying them and my feet were nice and toasty. They kept the water out and kept my feet insulated. The Velcro strap helped in this regard. The pull-tab at the back also prevented me from tearing up the cuff when putting them on. I suspect the material has a lot to do with heat retention but I would want to try a full wet suite from Xcel to determine this 100%. A good buy, and, if they last, laying down the cash would have been well worth it as an investment. If you intend to get in to cold water, you'll need a pair of boots like these. Boot-foot match is possibly the most important aspect of the decision-making process; so, ensure you size yourself correctly and use the boot-size chart provided.

The boots fit perfectly. The boots have a hard rubber sole which is exactly what I needed for the rocky bottom.
