If you have "wide calves" you know how difficult it is to find boots. Especially to find high quality, all leather boots without a heel! I looked at these boots from all angles before deciding to purchase them, but I was very wary of the circumference of the shaft.When they arrived I was very pleased! They need to be worn in a bit, they aren't the easiest to get zipped up at first, but they are only going to get better! I have 17-17.5" calves and these fit. I find them well-proportioned for my 5'4", plus size frame. They might be a bit chunky for a thin, small framed person. The leather is buttery soft and the lining feels luxurious and warm without being too thick. I can't wait to waterproof these and wear them in the PNW rain.

Comfortable right out of the box as are most Earth shoes and boots. I usually wear a 61/2 in Earth shoes (7 in other shoes) but ordered a size 7 because that was as close as I could get in brown. I can wear them with thicker socks or use my custom orthos and they work fine but they would be a bit too loose with thinner socks I think. The leather is wonderfully soft and because these are designed to "hide" the declined Earth heel, the boot has the look of a normal boot but the benefits of the Earth design. The buckles add just enough bling and they look great with jeans tucked in. The calf size seems to be more generous than many boots. I have athletic calfs and had room to tuck in jeans and zip them comfortabaly but I can still wear them with tights and they are not too loose or sloppy . The lining is light so even in warmer temps my feet do not get too warm. Overall these are a great boot even if you do a full day of walking!

I received the boots a few weeks ago and love them. I had hoped to be able to wear them to work frequently, but the seam at the sole is not professional, so I can only wear them some Fridays (more casual). The first few days I felt some extra use of my calf muscles due to the negative heel, but now they're just really comfortable. I recommend thicker socks the first week as you break them in (got a blister on my heel). I also recommend checking out the Legale(R) Pillow Sole socks - they give a little extra cusion and are my new favorite with boots and dress shoes (many different heights)... and bamboo, so they go very well with the Earth boots!
