5Great guitar, fantastic value
By Mountain Bob
My wife decided she wanted to learn to play guitar. That inspired me to take my guitar out of its case for the first time in years. My dread was a bit too big for her and the action was stiff for a beginner. I spent a few weeks researching "entry-level" 000 size guitars. I kept coming back to Blueridge instruments. At a comparable price, I couldn't find any other manufacturer using these components: sitka spruce top, solid (!) sides and back, scalloped bracing, bone nut and saddle. I was a bit nervous ordering a guitar she hadn't played. But we live in the mountains, and a drive to Denver to a big guitar shop would burn an entire day and $60 in gas. I was also a little concerned since this was the first imported guitar I have ever purchased. The guitar arrived on time and was very securely packaged. It looks good online, but I was stunned at how beautiful it really is. The mother of pearl detailing on the headstock is remarkable. The 000 size was a good choice for my wife and the action was wonderfully playable, right out of the box. It is certainly easier to finger-pick and barre than my Guild. It also already has a nice mellow sound (my 25 year old Guild is still a bit bright). I ran my finger over every inch of this guitar trying to find a flaw in material or assembly. Can't find one. Is it a $3500 Martin? No. Is it a fantastic value for 1/10 the price? Oh yeah. Only problem, now I want to play her guitar more than mine.
