Bought for Mother with osteo. arth. she was having a hard time getting up. this product makes it much easier without sitting on something uncomfortable. And the price is great too.

Before purchasing this item, I tried to ascertain how the legs are stabilized. None of the available pictures clearly show how the device fits on the sofa, but the arms of the StandEase bend at the back and connect together with a rod that slips between the back of the sofa and the seat cushion. I found the 1" tubes of the arms difficult to grasp even with the foam padding. I'm sure someone with arthritis in their hands would find it very uncomfortable. My husband purchased a length of inexpensive foam insulation tubing that is made to go over air conditioner pipes. He cut two pieces to cover the black padding that is already on the arms of the StandEase. With this adaptation, the product is easy to grasp and feels far more stable. It's not cheap (considering that it's basically three pieces of metal tubing), but it beats the price of a lift-chair if you need assistance standing up!
