Product Description

A Kotobukiya Japanese import. The 1/7th scale Star Wars ArtFX series is back, and it's back in a big way. Beginning an all new line of great heroes and villains from the Star Wars universe is the Sith master of the double-bladed lightsaber, Darth Maul. Appearing in Episode I - A Phantom Menace, Maul, an alien Zabrak, was the first member of the Sith to act openly in recorded history, ruthlessly attacking the Jedi Qui-Gon Jinn and Obi-Wan Kenobi. While he may not have survived past that film, Darth Maul left a lasting impression on fans with his unique appearance and amazing lightsaber skills. The all new Darth Maul appears like you've never seen him before. Inspired by Katsushika Hokusai's traditional Japanese ukiyo-e ("pictures of the floating world") style, the Sith warrior balances atop a rocky outcropping in a samurai-like pose. Stripped to the waist, the Zabrak wears a tattered robe that twists and flows with incredible sculpted detail. In his state of undress Maul reveals a body covered in intricate Sith tattoos, while his snarling face captures his hatred for the Jedi and the all-consuming rage in his heart. Of course, no version of Darth Maul would be complete with his blood red double-bladed lightsaber, and this one even has a special light up feature. Sculpted by Junnosuke Abe, Darth Maul stands approximately 11 " (in 1/7th scale with all other Star Wars ARTFX Statues). With its detailed construction and unique styling, this Sith menace is a snap-fit kit that can be put together easily in seconds without glue or modeling skill.

5One of Koto's best Star Wars products.
By Jesse
I've owned three of Kotobukiya's ArtFX statues top date, and this is the only one I've liked enough to keep. The problem with the line in general is that Koto uses vinyl for its statues instead of polystone like most American companies. Vinyl is lighter, cheaper, and more durable, but the flip side is that it usually doesn't look as good. In the case of the Iron Man Mark IV and Jack Sparrow statues, the vinyl just wasn't up to the task of mimicking the look of an armored superhero or a heavily clothed pirate. They looked like large action figures, not high-end collectibles. But with Darth Maul, Koto finally succeeded in winning me over. Maul's unusual skin tone helps offset the generally plastic-y look of these statues, and the result is that collectors can admire the statue without reservations. The pose is excellent, paying homage to the historic Japanese samurai paintings while still remaining distinctly Darth Maul. The sculpt has a real sense of energy and malice, perfect for a twisted villain like Maul. The lightsaber really adds to the effect, and the light-up function is much better than you'll find at companies like Sideshow. The statue is 1:7 scale, making it just big enough to fit in with the Gentle Giant statues on my shelf. I wish it were a little bigger, but the statue is a fair size for the price. The statue comes in several pieces, but it shouldn't take more than a couple minutes to have him fully assembled and ready to display. The box is pretty flimsy, however. I usually save all my statue boxes in case I move or sell them, but I may not even bother with this one. The benefit of a vinyl statue is that it's not prone to breaking anyway.Sideshow is prepping a similar Maul statue as part of its upcoming Star Wars maquette line. It may be worth waiting to see how that statue turns out. On the other hand, Sideshow will charge 2-3 times what this piece costs. If you want an eye-popping Darth maul collectible on a budget, this is definitely the way to go.

5A must have.
By ilker
First like to thank Amazon for fast and great shipping. Kotobukiya out did itself with this one. Took me no time to put this statue together. Every piece fits perfect. The detail is just incredible. If I had one complaint about this statue, it would be the light saber part. It is little bit loose and when putting it together you can break it. Other than that, this is an awesome piece to have for your star wars collection.
