I spent a few dollars more to get this Taper Lock pedestal WITH the power cylinder AND the swivel lock. All features work beautifully as designed. I learned by doing, if the swivel lock is engaged, that you cannot change the seat height, so you have to disengage the lock first (I had to get off the seat, I couldn't reach the lock lever while seated; maybe with more practice I can). It worked better for spin casting to leave the swivel lock off...if I was still-fishing, the swivel lock might be handy - otherwise I'm not sure whether it's that valuable of a feature (in fact it might add to early loosening of the seat bolts as you shift your weight over time, I don't know...they have a model without the locking feature for about $10 less). The pedestal snaps firmly into the Springfield Taper Lock base, and this pedestal height range of 13" to 20" is perfect for my seated fishing (I'm 5' 9"). My one concern is that the seat base, although very substantially built, is thicker than a Slim-Eze or other cheaper pedestal, and when you screw in the seat bolts to attach the seat, you seem to just catch a few threads on the tip on the bolt. If you aren't comfortable with that, you could replace the seat bolts with longer ones...but I think it'll work ok. When ready to store the seat, it is easy to pull back the tab and lift the entire assembly out of the base. I like this pedestal and plan to purchase a second one in the future (probably without the locking feature) for the other pedestal base I have.
