Yes, there are mattress pads out there for half the price, but buyer beware! You DO generally get what you pay for... We looked in brick and mortar stores first to get an idea of what was out there and saw a huge disparity in quality. Why have a high quality bed and then put a cheap pad on it that slips and slides, doesn't have a decent anchoring method, disintegrates over time, or doesn't feel right under you while sleeping? I took a chance on this one based on the description and price, and we are very pleased with the excellent quality, evident even within the packaging. It wasn't difficult to put it on the bed, even though a "fitted" type format with closed corners seems like it would be a real fight on a waterbed (it wasn't). The size was perfect, going right to the edges of the bed without extra to bunch up in the middle. The quilting is just right, allowing the mattress temperature to gently warm us, while shielding us from the clamminess you get when sleeping too close to the vinyl mattress itself. There is enough firmness in the quilted pad itself as well, which we found made it easier to get in and out of bed without knees and elbows "sinking in" as they do without a firm mattress pad. Overall, we are very pleased with this product and highly recommend it with no reservations whatsoever!

I've had a waterbed (hard sided, old-school) for over 30 years. This is the BEST pad I've ever found. Why? Because it's 84 x 60. Most are 80 x 60. The four extra inches makes it stay on. LOVE IT ! !

If I weren't already married, I would marry this mattress pad. To begin with, I have a California Queen hardside waterbed (60"x84"), and I always have trouble finding linens and things for it. Everything is 60"x80", which is too short. So just to confirm, this mattress pad fits a 60"x84" hardside waterbed. The top of the pad is quilted. I'm sure there are other mattress pads out there that are thicker or thinner, but I was happy with the thickness of this one. I've been using 3 thinner mattress pads on my waterbed because I didn't want to feel like I was sleeping on the vinyl waterbed mattress. But since I got this one, it's the only mattress pad I have on the bed now. I had to turn the heat up on the bed a little bit, but that's ok because it's nice to only need one mattress pad on the bed and not feel the vinyl of the mattress. All 4 sides have a stretchy pantyhose type material, and I think that's what makes this mattress pad the most awesome. It takes a little extra tucking, but it's worth it. The pads with anchor bands can leave mattress exposed on the sides, but this one doesn't. And so far, even with 2 people rolling around in the waterbed, it hasn't had a corner pop out or come untucked. It's washed well so far too. Although I haven't had any problems, I try to be a little extra careful with the stretchy side material. I know what happens when pantyhose get a run in them, and even though this material is thicker than your average pair of pantyhose, I still try to be careful so I don't snag it on anything. So to sum up, I will be buying another one of these just to make sure I have a spare!!
