The Hidden Link IR Receiver is a small shelf-top infrared repeater assembly. It includes an IR receiver. a 789-44 Connecting Block, a Power supply, and 4 283D emitters. The Hidden Link IR Receiver is equipped with a 7-foot cable and a 3.5mm stereo mini plug, which is plugged directly into the inchesIR RCVR inches jack on the 789-44. I first bought an Impact Acoustics (Cables to Go) Model #40430. The Impact Acoustics works okay and it is a great value for $40 or less. However, one must first consider how you will use it. IF, you are sending your IR 17'+/- or less STRAIGHT On or a very slight angle it works great. However, if your distance is greater or you have a bit of an angle then go with the Xantech HL95. In my application, it picks up IR easily from 30' and at a severe angle. Love it. Simple install.Biggest positives: Extended range and extended angle. I can't see how it would work from 120' --- perhaps straight on with a Benfer 2100 battery, maybe. Real world, no way. Still, I can get it to work from about any distance and angle in the spots I would reasonably be interested in watching or listening to my AV components.Only negatives (for me but might not matter in most other applications): 1. "only" 4 IR input slots. It would be nice if it was expandable. 2. the 7' IR receiver cord is pretty short IMO. It would be easy enough to splice an extension. In that regard, Xantech gives you the schematics for the 3 wires so that you get the extension spliced correctly. Small complaint but Xantech should provide us a cable of at least 20'.Set up with any of the repeater systems is basically the same. However, the Xantech components are larger guaged wire and seem to be higher quality than Cables to Go. Then again, huge difference in cost.Bottom line: if you live in an apartment or small area and aim the IR straight on from 10'-'15' or so, the Impact Acoustics (which I still use for a couple of AV components) should be fine. If you need extended range and/or angle, spend more and go with the Xantech.The Xantech HL95 is an awesome product. Worth every penny at retail price but you can find one seller on Amazon for around $150. That's a bargain and while I haven't tried the Niles or Buffalo products, I can't see how they would perform any better than Xantech.
