4High Quality But Not a Dual Tube Unit
By The Professor
We received our electric air compressor Aircast unit sight unseen from a Medical Supply Company after knee surgery. As a Mechanical Engineer, I must say that the single tube design of the Aircast Unit is not as affective for cooling as the standard dual tube (supply & return) units that are used in hospitals, which provide continuous cooling at any elevation. The operation of the Aircast Unit is highly dependent on the relative elevations of the unit itself and the cuff cooling pad. Our particular unit had an air compressor built into the top lid of a water cooler/thermos, which cyclically pressurizes the thermos, forcing cool water through the single tube at the bottom of the thermos into the cuff pad causing the cuff to balloon around the affected joint, cooling it. Then the compressor turns off for a few seconds allowing the now temped water to flow back through the same tube into the thermos, mixing with the cooler water. Then the cycle repeats itself. We were wrongly instructed by the medical supply technician to keep the unit elevated higher than the cuff. When we did that, cool water initially reached the cuff, but the elevation difference would not allow the temped water to flow back into the thermos when the compressor cycled off. Water flows back more completely when the cuff is at a higher elevation than the thermos. Some patients may complain that the cuff places too much compression on the wounded joint, especially if the relative elevations are not right. The unit would be more efficient if the compressor worked in both directions to pull more of the temped water out of the cuff. All-in-all, the unit was manufactured with high quality. It never failed or leaked like some of the two tube units sometimes do.

4Works OK
By Gary Daniel
Buy a 2 hose system if available. It is much more efficient. This is OK after you get the hang of it but requires attention.

5If you are having surgery BUY THIS!
By Jincy Hayes
I was introduced to Cryo Cuff in 1993 when I severely injured my shoulder, requiring 2 separate surgeries. This new model has the auto fill system so one doesn't have to manually recchill the water. It keeps the cold circulating even while one sleeps. The cold water is less than freezing, so there is no danger of tissue damage like there is with ice packs. I love this product. It keeps the swelling and bruising under control and after surgery I was completely off of the pain medication within 48 hours. It's great for pain management and sports injuries. The fact that it recirculates with the pump makes it even more amazing. Great for post workout icing, as well (knees, ankles, shoulders).
