This Barbie is a 10 year tribute to the BFMC (Barbie Fashion Model Collection). The BFMC dolls have, for the most part, been molded after the original 1950s era faces and wearing highest quality fashions.This doll is a Silkstone - a hard heavy vinyl meant to imitate the weight and feel of porcelain (but obviously less fragile). As such, the doll is quite solid and doesn't have that plastic 'play doll' feel. NOte that because she has a Silkstone body, she won't fit all Barbie fashions. Also, the Silkstones are breakable - since the vinyl is hard and rigid fingers can break off if the doll is played with by a child (or dressed without care).This Tribute doll is quite beautiful. She has very pale porcelaine skin, light blonde hair with platinum streaks, dangly blue crystal earrings, and a heavily beaded (very detailed) gown. She comes with gloves, matching shoes, a stand, and a certificate of authenticity.These dolls are meant for adult collectors and this particular model is quite attractive as a gift. She holds a special place in the high end BFMC line since she is an anniversary tribute and because she is very well done.In all, a great gift for a Barbie lover.

This is a beautiful doll! She was made to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the silkstone line. Robert best really did an amazing job designing this doll! It really captures the beauty & quality that the silkstone line are known for! Robert Best and silkstone is the best thing that has happened to barbie in many years! The silkstone barbie and her designer are what really saved the barbie collector market because mattel really flooded the market with all their "special or collector edition" dolls. As a collector the last place you want to see the doll you just paid a premium for is walmart! When mattel started letting any and all stores carry their collector edition dolls, they ruined the value! The fun in collecting is the thrill of the hunt and getting that rare doll! The perfect example is the 1st series of gone with the wind dolls that consisted of 4 different scarlets &1 rhett. The release prices were $69.99 to $89.99 depending on which one & where you bought them. I preordered the one in the red velvet dress for $79.99. She was very detailed and very high quality and I was very happy w/ her. I believed that I really did have a limited and hard to find doll; but this was not the case. Within a year she was on clearance at walmart and they had so many in stock, that they just kept marking them down! The rock bottom price that they finally sold out for was $9.99 and some stores even gave them away with any barbie purchase of $50.00 just to get rid of them cause they had too many! I do not collect for the value; but I really felt like a fool for paying so much for a doll that was marketed as a limited edition! They did this with almost all the collctor dolls; and they lost alot of their collectors business! The silkstone were completely different as they really did make them limited and harder to find as the only toy store that was allowed to sell them was fao swartz(sp?) They were designed much more grownup looking and sophisticated. The best thing was the actual silkstone because it did not "break down" like vinyl does. Also the way that they were boxed made it very easy to take them in and out for display. Most of the time when a barbie is removed from the box, it cuts 50 to 75% off their value, but not with the silkstones! In fact it was encouraged to take them out to redress them for display! The 1st 5 yrs. they would always release a basic longerie model for around $40 but some mother complained about them being too sexy so they stopped the longerie releases. I don't understand why because the ones that complained were not even customers of the silkies. They were elegant and very tasteful and its not like they were sold in toy stores or aimed at children, they are clearly marked not a toy and for adult collectors 14 and up. Besides there are alot of dolls that are aimed at children that are much worse and trashy(bratz)! Anyway if you are interested in collecting barbies you cannot get any better than the silkstones! If you want this doll, you should shop around as you can find her cheaper than the prices on here. Barbie collector.com has her cheaper. Remember to collect what you really like and you will really like your collection no matter what the value of it is!
