The first Hornet was a real disappointment in terms of function and durability...pieces tended to fall off at the slightest touch. The red Target exclusive redesign fixes most if not all of these flaws. The skids are more sturdy, helped by the new side rails. The new sliding cockpit is a nice touch, and the fixed tail with the pivoting rotors is another huge improvement. The wing guns are a good upgrade, while the nose cannon has lost some detail, but now spins. I was initially wary of the red color, but it goes well with the white arctic units.The other part of the set, the Covenant Sniper Tower, is a great addition to the bad guys' ground forces. A bit fragile, but once set up, it looks great when you add some Jackals and a Grunt or two with a plasma cannon.Get it from Target if you can, it's only $29.99, along with the red Warthog Troop Transport that's $19.99...they make a great pair! I highly recommend you add this set to your Halo Mega Bloks collection!

The tower with a vulture is an easy build and is a real addition to your collection. One figure is not enough but it is easy to populate it with grunts or brutes from the Series 3 figure packs.The Hornet is VERY NICE. I cannot comment on any redesign but this is a well-built item that will stand up in reasonable handling. It is a detailed build and requires your full attention. I had to do a rework a couple of times. Mega Bloks snap together and may require some push to make them snap. This results in a tighter fit and a more stable toy. The turbo engines rotate, the flaps move, the Gatling gun spins and the cockpit slides back. The UNC Pilot is a nice figure but the cockpit is a tight fit.The two major figures are the UNC Hayabusa Spartan and the Covenant Jackal. The Spartan has a sword and is nicely detailed. The Jackal is one of the best figures in the HALO line.This is a Target special for $35 until mid November. I had to go to a second store to find one.

The tower is lackluster, and disappointing in that it didn't include any plasma cannons or anything. It's also very flimsy, the bottom ramps are just awful. Can't be used on carpet because they break off too easily. My son was also disappointed in the fact that the tube holding bottom to top was so tiny - he wanted to be able to have a figure rise up from the bottom to the top like in the game. They just have a very narrow diameter colored piece of tube locking them together.The hornet, on the other hand, is a VERY solid build. The only pieces that didn't line up well were the plastic hand rails on the outboard sides for the UNSC grunts to hold on to when they're on the outer platform. Every other part fit perfectly, and it's a VERY solid build, very little hollow space in this thing - layered and layered, it holds up well and it'll be difficult for my 8 year old to dislodge anything unless he drops it outright.This is about the most solid of the ones I got him for xmas, right on par with the covenant wraith as far as how well it's layered and supports itself and has no warping during play.The red is cool since it's his favorite color, so he freaked when he opened this present this year.About all they could've done to improve it would've been having some spring loaded missiles to shoot, but since it's all about imagination anyway, that would've just been gravy on an already outstanding replica toy.
